How much does it cost?
$199 for one applicant when your federal return is already prepared or a documented IRS exception applies, and $399 for one applicant when we also prepare a straightforward federal return and one straightforward Maryland, D.C. or Virginia return for the same tax year, where applicable. Each additional eligible household applicant is $199. The IRS charges no fee to apply for an ITIN; these prices are for professional services.
Do I need a tax return?
Usually, yes, even for a renewal. The $199 service needs your already-prepared federal return or evidence of a qualifying IRS exception. The $399 package includes a straightforward federal return and one straightforward Maryland, D.C. or Virginia return for the same tax year, where applicable.
Do I have to mail my passport?
Yes, unless you bring it to our Baltimore office in person. IRS rules require a Certifying Acceptance Agent to have the original document, or a copy certified by the agency that issued it, in hand during the interview. A scan will not do, and neither will holding the passport up to your camera. We authenticate what the rules allow and send the IRS copies with our Certificate of Accuracy, so the passport itself usually stays out of the mail to the IRS. Some documents, particularly for dependents, still have to go to the IRS, and we tell you which ones apply to your case before you send anything.
What if I’m not eligible?
If you are unsure, ask us before purchasing. We review eligibility during onboarding and discuss any scope issue before continuing. If you cancel, we refund the unused prepaid balance after documented work completed and agreed expenses. The IRS makes the final decision; approval is not guaranteed.
How long does the IRS take?
The IRS says to allow 7 weeks for notice of your application status, or 9 to 11 weeks between January 15 and April 30 or when applying from overseas. That is IRS processing time, separate from our preparation and mailing time. These are estimates, not an approval deadline.
Can a spouse or dependent apply too?
Yes, but each person must qualify individually and each additional eligible household applicant is $199. A household can include people with SSNs and people applying for ITINs; not everyone needs an ITIN. Spouses and dependents must meet the applicable federal tax-purpose rules, including an allowable tax benefit where required. Contact us to arrange the household order.
